iPhone Compatible

iPhones running older versions of iOS may not be able to access the App Store. To use the App Store, an iPhone needs to be updated to a version of iOS that supports the App Store.

Explanation

• Starting April 2025, apps uploaded to the App Store must be built with the iOS 18 SDK.

To use the App Store, an iPhone needs to be connected to the internet and have an active Apple ID.

If an iPhone is having trouble connecting to the App Store, it may be necessary to check the device’s VPN and third-party security software.

To check the iOS version on an iPhone, you can:

1. Go to Settings
2. Select General
3. Select About

Android Compatible

To use the Google Play Store, you need an Android device running Android 6.0 (API level 23) or higher as this is the minimum version supported by Google Play services; any device below this version will not be able to access the Play Store.

Reason for requirement: This is due to the compatibility of Google Play services with Android 6.0 and above.

• Check that the device is connected to the internet
• If other devices can access the internet, check the device’s VPN and third-party security software
• If no other devices can access the internet, reset the Wi-Fi router

Software update

• Make sure the device has the latest software update
• Older devices may lose access to the App Store if they are running old software

Parental controls 

• If the App Store is missing, check the iTunes & App Store Purchases settings
• Make sure that the Installing Apps setting is set to “Allow”

Android Requirements

To use the Google Play app on an Android phone, the device must run Android 6.0 (API level 23) or higher.

Explanation 

• Google Play services are only compatible with Android devices that meet this minimum requirement.
• To check and update your Android version, you can refer to your device’s documentation.

Google Play also has requirements for apps that are available on the Google Play Store.

• New apps and updates – To be accepted by Google Play, new apps and updates must target Android 14 (API level 34) or higher.
• Existing apps – To be downloaded on newer Android 14 devices, existing apps must target at least Android 13 (API level 33).
